Whole Brain® Thinking

great minds do not need to think alike!
More powerful than Belbin or Myers-Briggs.

Whole Brain® Thinking was developed by Ned Herrmann whilst he was with General Electric. His Whole Brain® model is a metaphor for the thinking brain and is linked to its physiological roots. He showed that, instead of simply ‘left’ and ‘right’ brain, we actually have four quadrants.

Ned described how our natural thinking preferences lead us to develop skills and competences reflected in our behaviours. The competencies relating to each quadrant are typically upper left , lower left , lower right , and
upper right .

He developed the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI®) to profile an individual’s thinking preferences. For example, the pro-forma profile of an engineer (man or woman) shows the skills associated with each quadrant. The Engineer’s profile is said to be 1222 (reading anticlockwise from A) indicating the relative dominance of each quadrant. The Engineer’s dominant quadrant is naturally ‘A’. For the record, Ned's metaphor for the brain has been validated world-wide by more than a million profiles.

Whole Brain® Thinking also reveals insights into improving individual and team performance, situational leadership, matching people and projects, powerful report writing, matching people to jobs, creativity, productivity…and so on. The individual, team and business applications are boundless!
